Relation to the Bonesetter's Daughter
Most people would look at this book and movie and say that there is absolutley nothing in common, but when the two are analyzed they have a lot in common. To start with is the family aspect. In both "Goodfellas" and "The Bonesetter's Daughter" they have a big extended families. With the Bonesetter's Daughter the extended family goes from GaoLing, to Precious Aunite, all the way to the Changs. In Goodfellas everyone in the movie is family, weather they'd be a cousin, aunt, uncle, in-law, they were all related. Another way that the two relate are the bad relationships between members in the family. In the Bonesetter's Daughter Ruth and LuLing have a terrible relationship and they don't get along well at all. In Goodfellas, Henry and his wife don't always see eye to eye. In fact, towards the end of the movie, it seems like every time they interact they are fighting. The last way that the two relate is that drugs took down a whole family. In the Bonesetter's Daughter, the Changs family fell because they became very addicted to the drug opium. In Goodfellas, Henry started selling and using cocaine. This led to his demise because he became addicted, and he also got caught selling it, which caused him to do jail time, and eventually rat out his family.
